Today on Real Rebels our guest is a community centre membership card carrying downtown resident. He's here to tell us how to spot a phony. First of all, tell us how you became unemployed. Did you quit your job? No, that's for posers. Were you laid off? They wouldn't do that to me. Then how? I laid them off. Of course. And did you have to go on welfare? Do you think I'm weak? Then how do you get by? I collect disability benefits. Cool. And you say that in the last few years there has been a rash of personality thefts by people who want the glamour of a rebellious image without the hardships of a rebellious life. How do we stay on guard against them? Ask for credentials. If they're not holding a community centre membership card or a one year pass to a public swimming pool or an expired driver's licence, chances are they're not who they say they are. Beyond that, is their image consistent with their opinion? Would a man in a business suit mock corporations? Would a clergyman lampoon the scriptures? They're probably just saying those things to be popular. What about TV show hosts who criticize TV? You can trust them. Well, that's a relief. And that's it for Real Rebels this week. You can tune in next week or maybe you can get up off your couch and start living your own life. We don't really care. |
